At Tetley, we’ve been making tea since 1837 so we know a thing or two about how to make the perfect cup.
The journey of your tea starts in the tea gardens all around the world, where Tetley Tea is made from the young leaves and unopened buds of the plant, Camelia sinesis. We grow and buy tea from all across the world to get that that full-bodied and unique Tetley flavour.
There was a time when all our black tea came from China, but not anymore. We work closely with thousands of tea gardens from all over the world and our experienced buyers use their skills to select the very best teas from each location.
For us, it’s about helping to create a thriving, global tea industry that is socially fair and environmentally sustainable. That’s why we are founding members of the Ethical Tea Partnership and have committed to source 100% of our black and green tea from Rainforest Alliance CertifiedTMgardens by the end of 2016. We are already at 50%.
We buy our tea from the lush valleys and tropical islands that make up the tea growing regions of the world.
This hot and humid region produces mild teas with clear and bright liquors, perfect for iced tea!
Most teas are grown in the highlands of the Great Rift Valley that runs through Kenya. The most prized teas come from the East. Grown at high altitudes, these teas are full of flavour.
The soil in Malawi, knows as the warm heart of Africa, is a beautiful and vibrant red colour. This soil produces the most richly coloured teas in the world.
The Chinese are experts in white, green, and oolong teas. Each region has its own unique style with closely guarded secrets passed down through generations. As a result, it would be impossible to taste all of the tea found in China!
This tropical island produces some beautiful teas that are floral, fruity, and smooth. Here, tea is grown high above sea level in the mountainous misty forests.
Grown in the foothills of the Himalayas, teas here are delicate and peachy. In fact, they’re often referred to as the champagne of teas.
Teas grown in the lush Brahmaputra valley of Northern India are rich, malty, brisk, and full bodied ;perfect for waking you up in the morning.
These islands in South East Asia produce naturally spicy teas that take flavour well; perfect for Earl Grey blends.
Before landing on a shelf at your local store, each Tetley blend undergoes a crucial four-stage journey from crop to cup. The key ingredients are care and attention. After all, that’s what goes into making a great quality cup of tea.
